Ed and Miguel met as freshmen on the Marist College men's swimming and diving
team in 2015, and spent the next four years training together — early mornings,
double sessions, and the MAAC Championships every February. Both studied
biology. Both spent the hours between practices in the same lecture halls and
the same labs.
Miguel swam freestyle and backstroke, taking MAAC titles in the 500 free as a
sophomore and the 200 free as a senior, and captaining the team in his final
year. Ed swam breaststroke and made the MAAC All-Academic team in each of his
last three seasons. They swam the 400-yard medley relay together — a record
that still stands in the Marist book.
They graduated in 2019 and went in opposite directions: Ed into emergency
medicine, Miguel into a PhD. Mados is those two paths converging again — with a
working relationship of more than a decade behind it.
